Bugs in Bristol!

image0034.jpgOn Saturday 12th June Bristol Sailing School hosted a Sailing Fun day supported by LaserPerformance. The day was aimed at local children who either sail regularly with the BristolSailing School or are from local sailing clubs.

 

Tom Bowker from LaserPerformance who looks after the South-West and based out of SailLaser Weymouth towed six Bug' up to the event to help support it.

SailLaser hosts the first IAPS National Sailing Regatta

dsc01360.jpgThursday 13th May 2010 finally arrived, the day of the inaugural Independent Association of Prep Schools’ National Sailing Regatta, in association with SailLaser, held at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy. 20 school crews from across the country travelled to compete in the U11 and U13 age categories over a series of five races on the Olympic waters of Portland Harbour. 60 sailors competed in the regatta in a fleet of Laser Picos, provided by SailLaser.  The weather was very favourable on the day, with near perfect wind conditions making the races fun, manageable and competitive for all the junior sailors.

Coach Announced for ‘Get into the Laser’ Race Training Course Running Optimist Nationals Week
lasersailing.jpgRoss Harvey will be coaching the children attending the ‘Get into the Laser’ race training course, being run Optimist Nationals week.  Ross has been sailing competitively for the last five years sailing a variety of different boats including the Laser Radial and the Laser full rig.  Ross is a former member of the RYA National Youth Squad and has competed in numerous European and World Championships.  For the last five years Ross has been campaigning in the Laser on the international circuit.  His biggest achievements include 6th place at the 2006 Radial European Championships and 11th out of 280 at the Laser Radial Euro Cup.

Race Club Sailors Step it up a Level and Sail with the GBR 49er Olympic Team
47sailing.jpgOn the evening of the 15th May the second Race Club evening session of the year, our local sailors were lucky enough to be given the opportunity to sail against some of Britain's top 49er sailors; Dylan Fletcher and Alain Sign have been campaigning in the 49er for the last 3 1/2 years and finished 5th at the 49er worlds.  They were also accompanied by a fellow 49er sailor Richard Mason; all of the boys are currently campaigning to go to the Olympics in the 49er class.  The boys were happy to give up their evening to show off their sailing skills to our young local sailors as well as give them a few helpful hints and tips around the race course to help them sail their boats faster.  Dylan Fletcher who was quickly nicknames captain splash after a few too many capsizes down wind said; ‘it was great to see the children on the water and working hard on improving their sailing skills’.

Get Into the Laser with SailLaser Weymouth

SailLaser will be running a Laser Race training course for 5 days during the week of the Optimist Nationals (26th – 30th).  The course, for under 17’s, will be aimed those new to the boat or anyone currently looking to move from the Topper, Optimist etc classes.  We will be running the week alongside the Optimist nationals at the WPNSA in the hope that this will make things easier for parents with children in various different fleets and maybe looking for something for the older child to do whilst the younger one is competing.

SailLaser Tri-Mile Raises £2000 in Aid of Sport Relief!

SailLaser Weymouth and the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA) hosted a lively Tri-Mile Triathlon event in aid of BBC Sport Relief 2010 on Saturday March 13.  It was a fabulous day for the event, the sun was shining and it was blowing 10 knots from the north.  The 33 participants in the event raced in pairs with an age range of 7 – 15 years old. The entrants were from the Onboard Sailing Club held at SailLaser and neighbouring Weymouth and Portland sailing clubs.
