At SailLaser one of our main aims is to get as many children from the local community out on the water as possible. The success of our on Onboard, Race, and Adult Club means we now have lots of people from the local community sailing at the centre on a regular basis. We have a hugely successful volunteer programme (see below for more details) which means then we can not only get local people involved in the sailing itself but the teaching side of things also. We are also very pleased to announce the launch of our Autumn Race series, designed to get all of our community clubs together and racing on a regular basis at the Olympic Venue.
As part of our community programme we also have a vast amount of local school groups coming down for courses, doing anything from taster sessions to coming down for a few days to complete their RYA stages. Our after school evening sessions are also extremely popular, and keep children in the community coming back every week. Through the success of our Sail for £5 weeks we have manage to introduce a large amount of children from the area to sailing and given them the opportunity to sail on Olympic waters at the Olympic venue for 2012!!! Here at SailLaser Weymouth we have a hugely successful OnBoard club which runs weekly all year round. OnBoard is a program developed by the RYA's to introduce sailing as a sport for young people. At SailLaser we use the club to not only get children from the local community sailing, we also use the club to keep the children sailing on a regular basis so that they can work on and improve their sailing skills and even more importantly – making it affordable! During the high season the club has a membership of up to sixty children. Please take a look at our OnBoard page to look at how to sign up and get involved.
Due to the high success rate of our OnBoard club we now run a Race Club along side it, for our sailors to progress into. The Race Club is for the slightly older and more advanced sailor. Here the sailors work specifically on their racing skills and how to sail fast around the race course. They can then show off their skills by participating in the race club race series we run throughout the year.
Volunteering We are now recruiting volunteers for our OnBoard club, if you are a sailor and interested in teaching sailing then to have some great opportunities for you to get involved in. We are offering some exciting new incentives for all of our volunteers and we hope that SailLaser will have something to give back to anyone that chooses to volunteer with us.
